Choose Your Own PD

Students have access to better resources online than what teachers could possibly offer.

This is true! Students do have access to more information than a textbook could ever possibly offer. Not only is it more information, but it is up to date information.  We can now facilitate learning experiences for student’s where they find purpose and interest in what they are learning.

BUT...
What has this same access to resources done for educators?

As a child, I loved to read the books where you could "Choose your own Adventure." Through the use of all of the available resources we have as educators I feel like I now can choose my own learning. We now have no excuse for not learning. We can do our very own PD at home.  We have access to books, online book studies, twitter, etc.  Each of these opportunities offers a new learning experience for educators.  We are no longer restricted to the twice a year professional developments chosen for us.

Teachers are now being praised for being 'out of the box' instead of 'coloring in the lines.'

Teachers who look at new ways of teaching are innovating.  They understand that the way they have taught in the past may have worked great but not only could it be better but it has to evolve with our students.

I believe that students who have an educator who is willing to take feedback and criticism learn to be open to listening, reflecting, and accepting criticism as a positive instead of a negative.
